Graduating from a broad Graphics course in Brighton, 1992 Louis quickly discovered photography as his preferred method of communication.
He uses reportage and portraiture to document and tell stories relevant to modern times and occasionally writes and interviews as part of this process. In his latest stories, he has used a combination of portraiture and interviews to give a fresh perspective on the situations in Afghanistan and Haiti.
He is comfortable with stories that have a cultural twist and tends to explore subject matter in a subtle rather than graphic manner. He has twice been a finalist at the National Portrait Gallery annual exhibition, is held in their permanent collection and has been commissioned and published by a raft of top magazines.
He lectures on a regular basis, most recently at City and Islington College and the London College of Communications and has an occasional blog where a more personal take on his work can be found such as a surreal day spent photographing the Prime Minister. He is regularly commissioned for editorial assignments, portraits and commercial work.
Some recent publications include, Guardian Weekend, German and International Geo, Saturday and Sunday Times, Saturday Telegraph magazine, Foto8, The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, The Observer, Stern, Marie Claire, Arena, Fabulous, Politiken, Dagbladet, US Marie Claire and FHM.
